What’s new in version 1.3 of The Early Edition?

October 29, 2010

Version 1.3 was submitted to Apple about a week ago, so we’re hoping it will be approved soon. In the meantime, here’s a sneak peak at what you can expect to see in the new version. [UPDATE: It's been approved! Check your Updates tab on the App Store to download it now.]

What’s new:
4.2 Compatibility
New Sharing Tools: Twitter, Facebook, Read it later, Delicious
Settings: Make your personal newspaper even more personal
Backup: Export your feeds/folders to OPML (via email)
Delete past editions: New button in Archives popover to prune your database back to articles fetched today only.
Instapaper Mobilizer: You now have the choice of viewing articles as they appear on the website that hosts them, or as they appear when Instapaper Mobilizer has been applied to them. This choice is available in Settings.
New Gestures:
- Swipe to next/previous article when viewing in full screen
- Pinch to close articles when viewing in full screen (Note: this works best in Story mode, but you can make it work in Original mode by placing one finger in the toolbar at the top when performing the pinch to close).
- Tap and hold on individual sections or feeds to do an isolated fetch
- Two-finger horizontal swipe to flip from Story to Original view (and vice versa)

  1. Looks awesome. Great work!!!!!

  2. I’m so happy, just installed the long awaited update to 1.3 & enjoying the new features.

I also want to say what a great and professional looking video showing the apps highlights.

Looking forward to the launch of your next app.
Keep up the good work and great updates, now if only we could get Apple to hurry along on their app approval process. I do think I saw a flying monkey last week so anything is possible.
